A sideways scan, a landscape page in a portrait document, an upside-down attachment — wrong orientation is one of the most common PDF annoyances. Rotating fixes it permanently, so the file opens correctly everywhere without the reader having to tilt their screen.
When you need to rotate a PDF
- Sideways scans — a scanner fed the paper the wrong way and every page is 90° off.
- Mixed orientation documents — some pages are landscape, some portrait, and only certain ones need fixing.
- Upside-down pages — someone scanned a document face-down and the text reads bottom-to-top.
- Printing preparation — rotating pages before printing ensures the document comes out correctly oriented.
Step by step: rotate your PDF
- Open the Rotate PDF tool.
- Drop in your PDF or click to select it.
- Choose a rotation angle — 90°, 180°, or 270° clockwise.
- Choose which pages to rotate — All pages, Odd pages only, or Even pages only.
- Click Rotate, then Download your corrected PDF.
Which rotation angle to choose
- 90° clockwise — the most common fix for pages that appear sideways (rotated left).
- 270° clockwise (= 90° counter-clockwise) — for pages that appear sideways in the opposite direction.
- 180° — for upside-down pages.
If you are unsure, open the original PDF, note how far off the page looks, and match it to the angles above.
Rotating only odd or even pages
Some scanners alternate orientation when scanning double-sided documents — every other page ends up rotated. Choosing Odd pages or Even pages fixes these in one step without touching the correctly-oriented pages.
After rotating
Once the orientation is correct, you may want to compress the file if it came from a scanner — scanned PDFs tend to be large. Run it through Compress PDF to reduce the file size before sharing. If the document has pages that don't belong, Split PDF lets you remove them.
