Large PDF files can be a hassle to email, upload to a job portal, or share on WhatsApp. UsePDFTools lets you reduce PDF file size in seconds, directly in your browser. There is nothing to install, no account to create, and no watermark added to your document. Because the compression runs entirely on your own device, your files are never uploaded to a server — they stay completely private.
If you need your PDF under 1 MB — for a job application portal, a government form, or a university submission — use the High optimisation level. This applies the strongest image re-sampling and is the fastest way to get a PDF below 1 MB or even below 500 KB. If the result is still too large, the file likely contains many high-resolution images; consider splitting it first and compressing each section separately.
Email attachments are often capped at 10–25 MB, and WhatsApp limits files to 100 MB. For most email use cases the Medium level is ideal — it cuts file size significantly without any visible quality drop. For WhatsApp sharing, even Low is usually enough. Either way, your file stays on your device; nothing is uploaded to any server.
Choose the Low optimisation level if quality matters — for documents you plan to print, archive, or share with a client. Low re-samples images only very gently, keeping text and graphics crisp. The file will be somewhat smaller than the original but will look identical on screen and in print.
It depends on what your PDF contains. Documents with large or high-resolution images can often be reduced by 40–70%, while files that are mostly text are already small and may shrink only slightly. Try the High optimisation level for the maximum reduction.

The Low level keeps quality virtually identical. Medium and High trade a little image sharpness for a much smaller file. For documents you plan to print, choose Low or Medium; for email and online sharing, High is usually fine.
There is no fixed limit imposed by us. Because the work is done in your browser, very large files depend on your device's available memory, but typical documents of a few hundred pages compress without any issue.
